Were You at This Dance?
Sock Hops in Vetville, Dances at Maple School, the High School, the Tennis Club in the Heights, Seigneury Park Country Club.
We heard The Megatones, The Lightning Rods (later the Sherwoods)
Most of the time, we danced to records. This was before cassettes, 8-tracks and CDs. We slow danced to Connie Francis, twisted to Chubby Checker, did the California to the Beach Boys, as well as the Monkey, the Hitch-hiker, the Swim.
Do you remember Gordon & Sue singing "Surfin' Sal & Charmin' Willy"?
How about Tommy Swift and "Blue & Lonely"?
These performers (as well as others) would come out to the dances and would usually lipsync to their 45s.
